Music Magazine Double page spread analysis 3

Music Magazine Double page spread analysis 3

This is a double page spread from a music magazine of Pink. This is a typical double page spread as it has a heading, photograph and article.

Just like the double page spread of Florence and the machines, the photograph of Pink takes up half of the the page. Although this time the background is not white like the other one. Another difference is that this image is a close up only showing Pink's face and facial expressions. Pink's blonde hair adds contrast to the image through colour as the background is black. There is also yellow dots of either side of Pink's face which add contrast. I think these yellow dots could be earrings as they are below her ears, another reason is that you can slightly see the wire of the earring. Pink is showing the audience that she is happy and fun, slightly similar to my Solange first analysis. The image is light although there is a black background unlike Florence and the machine with a white background showing a lot of detail. I also think that the photograph looks light because Pink is smiling which detracts your eyes from the dark background. In the bottom right hand side of the photograph there is some writing written in white so that is stands out.

This double page spread looks just like the previous one. This makes me think that this double page spread is from a more established music magazine than before and cost a lot to be produced. This could also be about the image they are trying to but across of Pink. Peoples first impressions of Pink is that she is a rebel, but I think is trying to put across that she is not a rebel but instead a respectable lady just like Florence in the previous analysis.

Music Magazine Double page spread analysis 2

Music Magazine Double page spread analysis 1

Unlike my VIBE magazine analysis, this magazine double page spread looks more edgy and formal look as compared to the vibrant fun looking page on the vibe magazine. This is a double page spread from NME magazine it features a variety of mixed genre. In this particular magazine Florence and the machines as is pop/indie artists grace the cover of the double page spread. The powerful pose of the artist immediately captures the consumer’s eye and the bright red and white cover she is sitting on is the complete contrast to her black biker chick look making her as an artist look very chique. The main title of ‘USA’ is slightly faded out almost into the background colour shade and set behind her but as the font is so large it stands out, the rest of the titling being in a swirly black font causing a young modern look to it. The font layout is neat and tidy and attractive and very straight forward to read to their audiences.

Overall this is a very striking looking spread because the hair colour of Florence's hair is similar to the red stripes on the cloth she is sitting on  The boots in the image commands presence, this means it is immediately noticed as soon as the page is turned. Finally, the words 'got the love' is taken from the lyrics of Florence and the machine giving it a nice link to the whole topic of this double page spread.

Music Magazine Double page spread analysis 1

This is a double page spread from Vibe magazine, shows to be an RnB/hip-hop genre magazine that has articles about today’s relevant artists and those on the limelight. The layout of this magazine stands out to the audience targeted by vibe magazine; it does this by having a funky layout that will appeal to younger generations. The consistency of the black and white dancing girls draws attention across the page, these girls bring even more attention to the main image on the double pages being the artist, Solange Knowles. The use of limited colours makes the layout of the pages stand out and brings the audiences focal point to the dress.  This double page spread is suitable for younger audience from ages of 12-20. This may also appeal to female audience who have likes for the knowles family.

The double page spread is different to the usual Vibe double page spreads and this is important because there is a change in the layout and avoids the audience from getting bored from looking at it. The blue highlight of her name ' SOLANGE KNOWLES' says a lot as soon as that page is flipped on. It has an impact because the reader would want to know exactly what it is about solange and attract them to read it.

Magazine content page anyalsis 3

Unlike the last magazine contents page, this page is full of bight colours and tells a story as soon as you see the main image. This contents page has a main image taking up the majority of the page and in the image has a very summery holiday feel to it. Its on a black main background showing all the colorful details on the people in the image.

This is a different contents page look because the page is full of the contents in the magazine. The layout is very clear and visible making it very easy to understand. Some of the writing used tends to stand out more as it is bold and a main heading for each page. The layout of this contents page makes it straight forward and easy to read and this avoids confusion with the readers. This contents page looks suitable audience over the ages of 14 and above. It may also appeal to both male and female because it has images of both men and women.

Magazine contents page analysis 2

Firstly eventhough this is a contents page created by a music magazine “Vibe” it doesn't have the usual 'CONTENTS' text layout showing a variation in their magazines. The main image of the content page is a celebrity by the name of “Amber Rose”, who is known through affiliating with another famous celebrity, “Kanye West”, who is a well-known artist in the hip-hop industry. By taking genre-related pictures, this should help me attract the correct type of target audience I desire. The “Vibe magazine contents page has started off with a low key lighting image with a spotlight going over her face, this may have been done to enhance the awareness of the famous celeb. Also, the rest of the image is darker, which makes it easier to recognize the famous celeb. The costume that Amber Rose is wearing connotes wealth, as the fur coat and necklace/medallion she is wearing represents a lot of money.

The top left corner had the magazine logo placed there, along with the website name for the magazine. The layout of the magazine makes viewers focus more on the celebrity, rather than the actual contents. The contents are in small san-serif fonts and take up about 1/3 of the entire page, which are aligned on the left-hand side of the page in white font. The first heading on the page reads “Departments”, which declares the other sections in the magazine, which are listed underneath it. The “Departments” heading is in a larger bold, white font compared to the rest of the page, this shows its purpose as the heading for the rest of the context below.

The reason for using the celebrity Amber Rose is because she is always in the press about her lifestyle both for positive reasons and negative reasons. She seems to be a very controversial in the eyes of the public and its a good way of VIBE showing her positive points.

In conclusion, the content page can be improved by creating actual awareness of the content by increasing the size of the content information or having the text bold. The layout of the magazine is very efficient for attracting reader’s attention to the image. The image of Amber Rose helps me to widen the variety of the type of people that I can put on a music magazine, where it’s not just the artists, but some people who are affiliated with the music artists of that genre i.e. hip-hop. Also it was noticeable that there was only one picture on the content page, an increase of images of different music artists and associated can also be advised for improvement.

Contents page analysis 1

I chose this contents page from the R&B magazine 'Vibe'. Vibe magazine contains the latest R&B music, news, exclusive interviews and photos from the world of R&B and hip hop. The contents page differs from other music magazines as its really simple- one large photo for effect which intends to be quite revealing. The photo is a long shot which shows readers the women's bodies and less clothing- this can be interpreted as stereotypical R&B music being very different to other music genres. The page also lacks colour which could be done purposely so the women stand out as bursts of colour. The pose is also striking and readers see an exterior of confident women which is very stereotypical for an R&B magazine. Males can admire this photo and the magazine can attract a number of readers this way, however female readers can be envious of their perfect bodies. Again this shows R&B music is more about body image and appearance I think Vibe magazines target audience is aimed at males and females from 16-28 years; a wide range of audience. The layout is also simple and clear. The font is basic and black but creates a sophisticated effect, whilst the subheadings are more fancy and feminine in italic. In addition the background is kept plain and simple in order to compliment the font and colour scheme. The page contains minimal information, just enough so readers know what the different pages contain. The heading 'Contents' is different to other music magazines which could act as a symbol of difference to other music genres.

Front cover- Magazine analysis 3

Magazine cover analysis three

This magazine has such a fun vibrant feel to it mainly because of of the big smile in the main image and bright use of colours. The word 'POP' sounds like a very bubbly word which relates to the kind of music magazine this is. In comparison to my 2nd analysis, this magazine have major differences such as the text, colours, main image and the other smaller images on the page. Tulisa is seen as a public figure both to younger audience and older audience too as she has recently been made as a judge in xfactor making her very recognizable  There are other interesting sell-lines on the magazine such as Connor Mallard quoting ''I snogged 17 girls last Saturday ' this quote may appeal more to younger teenage girls within the age ranges of 14-18 and this is because he is seen as a 'ladies man' in the eyes of younger audience. There are posters of Britian's favourite boy band One direction and this will be highly appealing for audience that are big fans of this band. The bold text on the top of the magazine saying ''We love Pop' reflects the title because you can associate neon colours with this sort of pop genre when relating to to the target audience.

Front cover- 2nd analysis

Front Cover, Analysis two

I used this front cover of the VIBE magazine company simpy because it contrats well with the 1st magazine front cover analysis and this is because it has majour differences in the masthead, main image and sell lines. Firstly, the front cover of this VIBE magazine shows that the special edition is layout in a way to support politics and show that it’s siding with the democratic point of view. The front cover looks more like a political magazine rather than music magazine however, the name 'VIBE' tells regular audience nothing has changed but just a slight change to that particular issue.

This is due to there being Barak Obama on the cover page. This particualar issue of Vibe shows three main colours Red, Black and Blue but these colors have a meaning behind them. The colors are white blue and red. The masthead is on top of the image which makes the brand identity of the magazine easily noticed by regular VIBE customers / audience. The V is blue in a black box and it resembles a tick made on the ballot box when voting and the IBE is red. The reason behind VIBE picking these colors is to celebrate America as the flag is the same color (white blue and red) and also Barack Obama being a main leading part of the United States. The masthead is the largest font on the page, and it’s in large bold text which makes it legible to more people than if it was to be plain and italic.

This issue was posted in November 2008 trying to persuade and convince American VIBE buyers to vote for Obama to be the next president and this is an effective way of persuading the audience to vote for Obama. The reason why they put Barak Obama on the front cover is to influence people to vote for him. The target audience is aged 18-34, who buys hip-hop or rap music or listens to some sort of urban music.

The quote “The best rapper ALIVE” targets and grabs the audiences attention and lures them to buy it to find out who it could possibly be.  The layout of this issue is very different and not traditional at all. The magazine layout seems to be much clustered and the only separation is by font size and colour not by space. Everything regarding information is on the left  and the image is on the right. It does not follow the style of a conventional magazine. The image is usually in the center and is usually a medium close up or occasionally a establishing shot. But this shot is an extreme close up but only half of the face of a very recognizable image shown. The fact that VIBE put Barack Obama on the front cover shows they are strong democrats and so are their readers because if most of them weren't they wouldn't put him there.

Front cover, First analysis

Magazine cover analysis one.

I chose this front cover because at first glance, I saw that the main image has a lot of relevance to the actual Masthead of the magazine. The main image is Nicole Scherzinger who is a very sophisticated respected woman in our society nowadays. The direct eye contact from the main image immediately draws the attention   of the audience to be attracted to the magazine. The colours used on this magazine are bright vibrant colours showing how young and fun the information the magazine contains. There are different advertisements for tips advice on relationships and fashion. The beauty of the image could draw some male attention but mostly draw the attention of females too because of the interest of wanting to know how Nicole achieved her look.
The sell-line for this magazine plays an important role because it is very appealing to anyone who wants the buy the best magazine because it reads 'celebrating 20 years at the top' showing it has been around for a very long time with a very high success rate as it is still going.

Throughout the font is a good consistent size avoiding confusing the readers. However, in the bottom right hand corner, the font stands out the most attracting the audience and this may appeal to a wider variety of audience because it's a major issue going on in our society.

Foundation Production Portfolio Proposal Music Magazine

Music Magazine Introduction

I will be making a music magazine and this will include freatures from an R&B magazine, i will be taking this idea from the magazine frontcover I have been analysing lately called VIBE. I will also be including all the top charts list and newest upcoming artist. It will also include legendary artist who will never be forgotten in the world of music and a section for the audience to win prizes. In my magazine I will have pictures from my own personal music related experiences to make it more interesting. On the front cover of this magazine will have the no1 Uk singles that have been recently released and also gossips on what is going on in the music industries. I will include a main image of the Uk's favourite artist in that season and information on upcoming awards events. I will be using very popular images for a large variety of audience so it attracts them more to buy the magazine. I will be naming it 'Music no1' simply because it has a catch to it and  it will have all the number one singles albums and artists in the magazine. There will be 'no1' worthy up for grabs prizes for the audience to compete for. The target audience I would like to attract for my magazine are teenagers from 15 to very late 20's.

My College Magazine Cover and contents page.

My magazine colour usage: The colours i've used for my magazine are red and black, and this is because these two colours really works together and gives the magazine a bold look to it. Red is seen as a very bold strong colour and so is white. In my rationale, I decided to use 3 colours which were orange, yellow and black however, I changed my mind when I started to practically do my magazine. I still kept the black on the pages simply because it stood out more with the red. I decided to keep the colours very minimum and this is to make it look as professional as possible however with a little twist of red to it. The colours used will make it more recognisable because majority of magazines use a lot of colours making them look very similar but with mine it has the difference of having two main bold colours.

Images used: For my front cover, I took an image myself of one of my friends and enlarged it to fill the majority of the page. This is the main focus on the page at first sight. It has a relevant college like image to it, with the model holding a folder showing college life. The model's eyes are looking directly at the camera with a very nice friendly smile making the magazine look more welcoming at first glance. This is a medium shot containing the model head to waist area on show. I decided not to use anymore images because it would have reduced the focus on the main image.

Text Usage: For my college magazine, I put a main masthead which reading 'Beade's Issues' in bold outstanding text and this is directly referring to what the image is about and what it will be containing in it. There is a 3rd person narative on this magazine showing all the offers this month's issue have in store for the students on Bede college. I have included a sell- line tagline on my magazine too for the target audience.

Layout and Font: For my layout and font for both my front cover and contents page, i used a variety of simple readable text and this is because, I want it to look as professional as possible and very comfortable for the audience to read. The layout i used is very regular all the way through my magazine  because I don't want to confuse the audience. The simple layout is suppose to avoid any sort of confusion to the audience. I have included a portrait facing image on the page with a plain white background and a diagonal facing offer on the right hand side corner of the image and this is create the fun college like side to the magazine.
