Front Cover, Analysis two
I used this front cover of the VIBE magazine company simpy because it contrats well with the 1st magazine front cover analysis and this is because it has majour differences in the masthead, main image and sell lines. Firstly, the front cover of this VIBE magazine shows that the special edition is layout in a way to support politics and show that it’s siding with the democratic point of view. The front cover looks more like a political magazine rather than music magazine however, the name 'VIBE' tells regular audience nothing has changed but just a slight change to that particular issue.
This is due to there being Barak Obama on the cover page. This particualar issue of Vibe shows three main colours Red, Black and Blue but these colors have a meaning behind them. The colors are white blue and red. The masthead is on top of the image which makes the brand identity of the magazine easily noticed by regular VIBE customers / audience. The V is blue in a black box and it resembles a tick made on the ballot box when voting and the IBE is red. The reason behind VIBE picking these colors is to celebrate America as the flag is the same color (white blue and red) and also Barack Obama being a main leading part of the United States. The masthead is the largest font on the page, and it’s in large bold text which makes it legible to more people than if it was to be plain and italic.
This issue was posted in November 2008 trying to persuade and convince American VIBE buyers to vote for Obama to be the next president and this is an effective way of persuading the audience to vote for Obama. The reason why they put Barak Obama on the front cover is to influence people to vote for him. The target audience is aged 18-34, who buys hip-hop or rap music or listens to some sort of urban music.
The quote “The best rapper ALIVE” targets and grabs the audiences attention and lures them to buy it to find out who it could possibly be. The layout of this issue is very different and not traditional at all. The magazine layout seems to be much clustered and the only separation is by font size and colour not by space. Everything regarding information is on the left and the image is on the right. It does not follow the style of a conventional magazine. The image is usually in the center and is usually a medium close up or occasionally a establishing shot. But this shot is an extreme close up but only half of the face of a very recognizable image shown. The fact that VIBE put Barack Obama on the front cover shows they are strong democrats and so are their readers because if most of them weren't they wouldn't put him there.
